Simi Peak from King James Court via China Flat

START TIME – We’ll meet at 7:00 AM at the trailhead (described below) in Oak Park). NOTE: Sunrise is at 6:40 AM.
DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: This hike in the Simi Hills will follow an old dirt-and-rock road as it rises up the south side of the mountain, providing ever-expanding views to the south. Upon reaching the apex of the old road, we’ll descend into China Flat with its oak trees and sprawling grassy meadows. Then we’ll follow a trail that leads up to Simi Peak (2,403’), the highest point in the Simi Hills, where we’ll take a break to enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding area.
PREPAREDNESS: Bring 2-3 liters/quarts of water (or other suitable liquid) and lunch/snack. Wear appropriate footwear (preferably hiking boots) and be prepared for bright sunlight (sunglasses), heat (layers of clothing), and/or precipitation (rain gear). Hiking pole(s) and a camera might come in handy.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE GATHERING POINT (NOTE: be sure to arrive at the trailhead by 7:00 AM
o In Simi Valley, take Highway 118 west to Highway 23.
o Take Highway 23 south to Highway 101.
o Take Highway 101 3.75 miles “south” (toward L.A.) to the Lindero Canyon Road exit
o Turn left (north) on Lindero Canyon Road and drive 3.8 miles north/east to King James Court (on your left)
o Drive past it 0.1 mile to Wembly Avenue (on your left).
o Reference: 5400 Wembly Ave. Oak Park
o Turn around and park on the north side of Lindero Canyon Road [NOT on King James Court] and wait for the hiking leader (s).
