June 28, 2025

We’ll meet at the Oak Park County Park off West Los Angeles Avenue in Simi Valley (refer to the driving instructions below).

DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: Moderate 6 miles w/725’ of elevation gain/loss. After parking at the trailhead we’ll follow the connector trail to the official entrance to the Alamos Canyon Open Space (purchased by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District effective December 9, 2016). We’ll then follow the Alamos Canyon Trail loop in a counterclockwise direction; we’ll then return the way we came.

PREPAREDNESS: Bring 2-3 liters/quarts of water (or other suitable liquid) and lunch/snack. Wear appropriate footwear (preferably hiking boots) and be prepared for bright sunlight (sunglasses), heat (layers of clothing), and/or precipitation (rain gear). Hiking pole(s) and a camera might come in handy.

DIRECTIONS TO WHERE WE’LL START HIKING – Located at 1901 Quimisa Drive, Simi Valley, CA – NOTE: You should be at this location by 8:00 AM.

  • Take the Madera Road exit on Hwy 118 in Simi Valley.
  • Head south 0.45 miles on Madera Road to its intersection with Easy Street and turn right (west) onto Easy Street.
  • Drive about 1.5 miles to the entrance (on the right side of the road) to Oak Park (there’s a sign) and turn right/north.

NOTES:

The sign at the right turn into the entrance to the park reads “OAK COUNTY PARK.”This right turn is opposite a very large storage lot for RVs (Recreation Vehicles).

Easy Street becomes West Los Angeles Avenue along the way.

Drive a short distance and cross the railroad tracks; you’ll immediately reach the gated entrance to Oak Park.

There is a $2.00 entrance fee to Oak Park on week days [$5.00 on weekends] so be sure to bring at least two (2) one-dollar bills to pay the “iron ranger.” [Les will have lots of single dollar bills with him in case you forget to bring any] -- Be sure to display your receipt on the dashboard on the driver’s side.

After paying the entrance fee, drive in a very short distance and turn right. Then drive a very short distance to the trail kiosk (on the right side of the road; there are parking spaces on both sides of the road [and additional parking spaces further inside the park]. Park and wait for the hiking leader(s).
