Johnson Motorway to Rocky Peak Fire Road and Back

START TIME – We’ll meet at 8:00 AM at the starting point of the hike on Iverson Rd. under the 118 freeway overpass. (see below). NOTE: Sunrise is at 6:49 AM.
DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: Moderate-to-strenuous 7.3 miles with about 1,450’ of elevation gain/loss. We’ll begin our hike through the gated southern entrance to Indian Springs Estates as we hike northward to the actual beginning of the unpaved Johnson Motorway. We’ll then hike westward through a landscape of dramatic rock formations, climbing steadily but not steeply, to the Rocky Peak Fire Road where we’ll take a break before returning the way we came
PREPAREDNESS: Bring 2-3 liters/quarts of water (or other suitable liquid) and lunch/snack. Wear appropriate footwear (preferably hiking boots) and be prepared for bright sunlight (sunglasses), heat (layers of clothing), and/or precipitation (rain gear). Hiking pole(s) and a camera might come in handy.
DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAILHEAD FROM SIMI VALLEY – NOTE: You should be in the trailhead parking lot (see below) by 8:00 AM
o Take Hwy 118 west to the Topanga Canyon Blvd (Hwy 27) exit.
o Head south on Topanga Canyon Blvd 0.4 mile to the traffic signal (light) at Santa Susana Pass Road.
o Turn right (west) onto Santa Susana Pass Road and drive 0.9 mile to Iverson Road and turn right (north).
o Drive 0.3 mile to the Hwy 118 overpass.
o Park on either side of Iverson Road (without blocking the road) and wait for the leader(s). Reference 11390 Iverson Rd. Chatsworth.
