Substitute Hike Due to Excessive Heat Warning

5 to 8 MRT – Moderate to Strenuous (1,400′ – 1,900′ elevation gain/loss)

Meet at 7 AM near Donut Delite at the corner of Madera and Royal. Bring 2 to 3 quarts of water, lunch and sunscreen. Wear boots.

The Zuma Ridge Trail (aka Zuma Ridge Motorway) is a wide dirt road that winds northwest along the ridge west of Zuma Canyon. The hike begins in a sycamore-dotted flood plain but quickly rises to grassy mountain slopes. The views – including Zuma Beach, Point Dume, Malibu High School, and the Pacific Ocean (and Channel Islands if the air quality is good) – steadily improve as elevation is gained. We’ll reach the junction of the Zuma Ridge Trail with the Zuma Edison Road at 2.6 miles and those who continue on will reach Buzzards Roost (which is private) at 4.0 miles. The entire hike will be on the ocean side of the mountain.
