Corriganville Loop and the Stagecoach Trail
DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: Moderate 4.5 miles RT with about 900’ of elevation gain/loss OR 2.3 miles RT with about 325’ of elevation gain/loss.
We’ll begin by hiking from the trailhead along the trail (a dirt road) to the Camp Rotary building (0.4 mile/36’); from there we’ll embark on the Corriganville Loop Trail to the center of the Corrigan Movie Ranch (1.13 miles/261’); then we’ll continue on the Loop Trail to the “Robin Hood Lake” and on to the Camp Rotary building 0.42 mile/25’).
NOTE: If you choose not to continue on the hike, you can simply walk back along the dirt road to the trailhead.
Otherwise, we’ll continue on to the “wildlife tunnel” under Hwy 118 (0.44 mile/269’); from there we’ll follow the Stagecoach Trail to its junction with Santa Susana Pass Road (0.82 mile/306’); we’ll then return to near the Camp Rotary building (0.84 mile/23’) and then return to the trailhead (0.37 mile/0’).
PREPAREDNESS: Bring 2-3 liters/quarts of water (or other suitable liquid) and lunch/snack. Wear appropriate footwear (preferably hiking boots) and be prepared for bright sunlight (sunglasses), heat (layers of clothing), and/or precipitation (rain gear). Hiking pole(s) are recommended due to a degree of overgrowth along some stretches of the route we’ll hike, and a camera might come in handy.
NOTE: At the beginning of the outing you will be required to read and sign a liability release form (a sign-in sheet).
DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAILHEAD IN SIMI VALLEY:
In Simi Valley, take Highway 118 to the Kuehner Drive exit
Take the exit and drive 1.1 miles south to Smith Road (there’s a traffic signal at the road junction)
Turn left (east) on Smith Road and drive 0.4 miles to the entrance (on your left) into Corriganville Park
Park in the dirt parking lot and wait for the hiking leader(s). The trailhead is at the far end of the parking lot.
