Chivo Canyon and Tapo Open Space Loop
DESCRIPTION OF HIKE: Moderate 4.4 miles with 600’ of elevation gain/loss. We’ll start our hike along the Chivo Canyon Trail, then to the junction at Tapo Canyon Open Space Trail (T23). Then take the loop Trail back to the Tapo Canyon Trail and follow it as it descends through oak woodland. We will Pass the loop junction and drop down into Chivo Canyon, and then return to our vehicles. See satellite snapshot below.
PREPAREDNESS: Bring 2-3 liters/quarts of water (or other suitable liquid) and lunch/snack. Wear appropriate footwear (preferably hiking boots) and be prepared for bright sunlight (sunglasses), heat (layers of clothing), and/or precipitation (rain gear). Hiking pole(s) and a camera might come in handy.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO THE TRAILHEAD NOTE: Please be at the trailhead by 6:30 AM
In Simi Valley, take Highway 118 to the Yosemite Avenue exit.
Drive 1.9 miles north to Westwood Street.
Turn right (north) on Westwood Street and park in the first block, if possible, or along the north side of Copper Ridge Court (the first street on the right).
